Great BBQ Book

Sorry to disappoint you but this post is not about how to grill better sausages. It’s about a fantastic novel and book called “The Slap” by fabulous Australian author Christos Tsoilkas. You can see an interview with him here on Compass talking about his inspiration for the story.

The story is set at a family and friends barbeque in Melbourne, Australia when a child is slapped by one of the adults for being insolent. The fallout goes immediately nuclear. This story is about the ugly side of everyone.

The Slap was turned into a terrific cannot-be-missed miniseries last year on the ABC. It made for compelling viewing. I was completely hooked from the get-go.  Melissa George who plays the mother of the slapped child, was hauntingly good. She won a Silver Logie for most Outstanding Actress in 2012 but to me she was pure gold.

That’s it for me and BBQs for now. Happy grilling (and reading!)
