Embracing the art of distraction

Today is my first day off. Ever. It’s the first day both my children are in family daycare. Though in some ways it feels like my heart has been ripped out of my chest, it’s now time for me to go-back-to-work and earn some that money I always complain about not having.

I’ve had a generous leave period of 19 months to enjoy with my children but now I really am in limbo land because I was made redundant while on maternity leave.

Nothing says “I don’t love you” like being made redundant while on maternity leave. I’ve officially known about the redundancy for about 5 months but next week it becomes a reality. I will be officially off maternity leave and into the twilight zone of redeployment. Nervous? Just a little.

Today I distracted myself by:

  1. Taking myself to the movies (Life of Pi) I hated the book but was totally captivated by the movie
  2. Lunch with a girlfriend without our kids! We got to talk and eat without distraction.
  3. Bought a present for a friend’s new baby girl.
  4. Oh no! It’s almost pick up time – do something productive!!
  5. Why bother? Have a lovely cuppa tea instead…
