Today’s post was meant to be about something else…

Today’s post was meant to be about me going back to the office after 19 months maternity leave. I was looking forward to leaving the kids at home with Daddy for the day, catching the train and reading a book, having coffee with the girls and just generally having a “me” focused kind of day.

But then life happened. I played indoor netball last night with my dedicated mums team. I played in the super busy position of Wing Defence. There’s no Centre position in indoor netball so it’s like playing both positions. And there’s lots of running. I feel tired just thinking about it.

So there I was running about when I did one of those silly netball steps when one foot stops and the other one kept going except that my foot turned in on itself and something inside went “ping”

I begged for the magic spray that always appears at international football games. The medics spray it on the injured player and then they stand up and play for the rest of the game. Alas we didn’t have any so I had to settle for ice. No court side miracles in this game!

My friend drove me home and then kindly drove my husband back to the court to fetch our car while my 3.5 year son got out his doctor’s kit and told me that I was a very brave girl.

A neighbour came round to mind the kids while my husband ferried me to the doctor’s clinic and then the hospital.  I sent him home to relieve my neighbour. I never really appreciate the fantastic support network I have until things like this happen!

It took hours for a warden to arrive to take me for x-rays and I also accidentally mistook the treating doctor for the warden! I blame the mind numbing television show that was blaring in the waiting room. It zapped my brain of all recognition.

It was almost a let down after five hours to discover that it was a partial ligament tear on my right foot but I am pleased it was nothing more.

I’m off work for the week literally with my feet up. Pass the grapes would you?

I know some netballer mums. One mum did tore her ligament in a cast & brace for a year. Another did her knee in & was in a brace for 2 years. Luckily yours isn’t that severe. Hope all “heels” well LOL.
